# Package visual review - 2026-10-11

## Scope and visual evidence

Expanded the fluid/element review to mechanics and springs, surfaces and
platforms, wedges and ramps, native components and tracks, optics and ray
composition, waves and acoustic modes, thermal physics/heat transfer,
thermodynamics/pistons, debug overlays and reference cards.

- All 59 complete example documents compile against the checkout.
- Reviewed the 50 remaining example documents (131 rendered pages), then
  the new three-page native-style gallery: 51 documents / 134 pages in this
  expanded audit. The earlier eight fluid/element galleries cover another
  26 pages. Together these cover all 59 documents / 160 example pages.
- Re-rendered all 51 expanded-review documents after corrections and closely
  inspected the 24 pages containing affected native, thermal and debug views.
- `examples/native-style-review.tex` demonstrates inherited annotation fonts,
  connected and rotated phased waves, solid/shell fills and patterns, dashed
  strokes, and fill/pattern nodes with `draw=none`.
- Ordinary example colors and debug marker colors are author overrides.
  Package physical defaults remain monochrome. No example has an overfull box;
  some reference cards produce harmless underfull-paragraph diagnostics.

## Corrections

1. Transverse-wave `start` and `end` now match the sinusoidal curve endpoints
   for nonzero phase and fractional cycle counts. Axis anchors still locate
   the straight centreline. Added independent coordinate checks for both ends,
   a rotated fractional wave, and a second wave attached with `anchor=start`.
2. Heat/work and piston-gas labels now inherit the surrounding font. Short
   thermodynamic label/flow hooks delegate to collision-safe `every physics
   thermo label` / `every physics thermo flow`. Added assertions on real
   annotation nodes at 14.4, 8, 7 and 12 pt, including explicit overrides.
3. Native cylinder, cone, frustum, cylindrical shell, conical shell and hemisphere
   paths now have closed material silhouettes. Fills/patterns cover their bodies;
   shell top openings use opposite winding and stay unpainted. Rim guides are
   separate stroke-only paths, respect native dash/width options, and are
   suppressed by `draw=none`. Wireframe rims remain visible by default.
4. Increased spacing for headings/cards in `debug-scoped.tex`,
   `debug-pulley-edge.tex` and `debug-demo.tex` to remove visual overlaps.
5. Updated module guides, manual, example index, changelog, and the generated
   single-file runtime. The bundled piston example loads `tikzphysics` before
   its explicit library request; the modular source keeps selective loading.

The path/shape implementation was checked against the primary
[PGF/TikZ node and shape documentation](https://tikz.dev/base-nodes), especially
native background painting and the stroke-only layer before text.

## Final results

- All 16 regression suites pass. The two new fixtures add 12 coordinate and
  12 annotation-font PASS records. Two existing baselines were adjusted only
  for expected font-loading messages after removing forced small text.
- All 59 examples compile; 18 element, 16 combined fluid/element, 15 native
  component, 30 thermodynamic and 18 thermal-physics invalid-input cases
  produce their intended diagnostics.
- All 122 generated feature references and the single-file runtime are current.
- All 21 isolated bundle checks pass with a five-million-word memory limit,
  including the fixed memory-pressure probe and every bundled example.
- All 18 pages across six affected galleries are pixel-identical between
  modular and isolated single-file builds at 72 dpi.
- The updated manual compiles to 92 pages, with no overfull boxes or
  unresolved references. The existing enumitem negative-labelwidth warning
  remains. Changed solid, wave and thermodynamic pages were rendered.
- The full Overleaf ZIP contains 27 files; the small starter ZIP contains
  three. Archive integrity and byte equality against current runtime,
  example sources and guides pass.

The complete `output/pdf/package-visual-review.pdf` collects all 160 example
pages with a bookmark for each document. The three-page
`output/pdf/native-style-review.pdf` focuses on this audit's corrections.

## Reproducible checks

```sh
l3build check
l3build doc
python3 scripts/verify_fluids.py
python3 scripts/verify_elements.py
python3 scripts/verify_components.py
python3 scripts/verify_thermodynamics.py
python3 scripts/verify_thermalphysics.py
python3 scripts/generate_reference.py --check
python3 scripts/build_overleaf_bundle.py --check
python3 scripts/verify_overleaf.py
```

Evidence is retained under `tmp/package-review-20261011/`: rendered pages and
contact sheets, compile recorders, final regression and manual logs, malformed
input checks, isolated bundle builds, and split/bundled pixel comparisons.
Current preview PDFs are in `output/pdf/`; direct-upload files are in
`output/overleaf/`. These are local verification results.
